T3BOARD11 - SCHMITTENHÖHE, Zell am See (AT)
27 March to 3 April 2011

Category: TYPO3 Association, Event Committee, www.typo3.org, association.TYPO3.org

By: Adrian Zimmermann

As announced on T3BOARD10 the event committee discussed to try a new location in 2011. A superb offer made the decision easy and thus T3BOARD11 will take place in Zell am See in Austria.

Zell am See-Kaprun - the region

The region Zell am See-Kaprun boasts an extraordinary wide range of leisure time and sporting activities all year round thanks to its natural assets including its glacier, the mountains, and Lake Zell. More than two million overnight stays make the region one of the most popular destinations in the Alps.
Frozen-over Lake Zell, uncountable first-class hotels and the snow-covered summits are only some of the reasons why Zell am See-Kaprun is so popular among holidaymakers - especially in the winter months. Skiing and snowboarding play a major role in winter, of course. To guarantee thick blankets of snow everywhere and unclouded sporting fun at any time, Zell am See-Kaprun keeps a new snow cannon system ready.

Sun, Snow & Party Week

When winter has made its farewells - at least according to the calendar - Zell am See-Kaprun continues to celebrate the snow. From 26 March to 2 April 2011 the region is staging its traditional 'Sun, Snow & Party Week'. The event programme for 2011 is to be announced but we can already give away one highlight: Anna F. will be performing live and open-air in front of the Ferry Porsche Congress Center in Zell am See on Wednesday, 30 March 2011 (could be combined perfectly with the soccer match).

The skiing area on Schmittenhöhe, Zell am See

Directly on the threshold of Zell am See, fans of winter sports find the skiing area on Schmittenhöhe offering 77 kilometres of pistes and 26 cable cars and lift facilities. The Freestyle Park ROME PARK adds variety to dashing down the ski runs. The park with a total length of about 600 meters and a difference in height of about 100 meters is accessible via Hahnkopflift which is a tow lift.
With good reason Schmittenhöhe is hotly tipped as the most beautiful panorama mountain in Austria. The impressive summit view of 30 peaks of above 3,000 meters and breathtaking sunsets to be enjoyed from the terrace of Berghotel Schmittenhöhe are without equal.

Facts and figures of Schmittenhöhebahn:

  • 26 cable cars and lift facilities
  • two aerial tramways
  • five monocable gondolas
  • two six-seater chair lifts with weather-protection hoods and seat heating
  • three four-seater chair lifts
  • two three-seater chair lifts
  • three two-seater chair lifts
  • nine tow lifts
  • 77 kilometers of ski runs
  • 25 kilometers black (difficult piste)
  • 27 kilometres red (intermediate piste)
  • 25 kilometres blue (easy piste)

Glacier skiing area on Kitzsteinhorn and Ice Camp

Thanks to the cooperation of the operators of the cable car facilities on Schmittenhöhe (Zell am See) and on Kitzsteinhorn (Kaprun) the glacier skiing region Kitzsteinhorn can be used (a ski bus takes you there from Zell am See within approx. 30 minutes). Ski passes for two or more days are always valid for Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See as well as for the glacier skiing area on Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun. The fare for the ski bus is already included in the ski pass.

A true highlight on Kitzsteinhorn is the igloo village of the Ice Camp. At an altitude of about 2,500 meters above sea level, guests can enjoy drinks at the Ice Bar and even spend the night at one of the cosy sleeping igloos of this fantastic igloo world made of more than 60 tons of ice and snow.

Berghotel Schmittenhöhe - the accommodation

Rise and shine to enjoy pure skiing and boarding fun! Be the first to leave your traces in the pristine snow on the ski runs!
Berghotel Schmittenhöhe is located at 2,000 meters above sea level on the summit of Zell's local mountain Schmittenhöhe. In the winter months the mountain hotel is exclusively accessible via cable car (daily from 8.30 am to 5 pm). It offers more than 130 beds in comfortably furnished and lovingly decorated rooms with en suite bathrooms and television. Some rooms have a sunny balcony. Regular renovation works in the past have been a guarantee for modern standards which make Berghotel Schmittenhöhe in no way inferior to other hotels in its category.

The location of Berghotel is absolutely unique: the first thing you see when opening your eyes in the morning is the awe-inspiring panorama that you can enjoy from the terrace - not to forget the stunning sunsets spreading out in front of you when taking a look through the large panorama windows in the meeting room and the self-service restaurant. Yeeah, thanks guys for choosing such a cool location and a time-slot, that is not colliding with the CeBIT ;-) The t3n guys will be back @T3BAORD in 2011 :-)

You made my day! What a great choice!
Have been there a couple of times: Scenic landscape, nice slopes and guess what: Most friendly Austrians ;-)
FYI: The Austrian Emperor Franz-Josef & Sissi stayed there some 117 years ago.
Thanks for the organization. - Looking 4ward to CU all there!

Kai 26-07-10 16:20
How much will it cost? And will there really be good snow at the end of march?

Georg Ringer 28-07-10 06:46
@Kai: I guess costs will be about the same. And snow is always part of luck, this is also the case in Laax but yes there should be still enough snow. Furthermore ski area Kitzsteinhorn is on the glacier.

Jan-Hendrik 28-07-10 13:05
I'd opt in for a rehearsal beginning of next year ;-)

Looking for a lift to Zell am See. Does someone go by car? My location is Darmstadt near Frankfurt.

Jule 13-02-11 09:18
