TYPO3 4.6beta1 released

Today the TYPO3 community released the first beta version of TYPO3 4.6, in sync with our roadmap.

Today the TYPO3 community released the first beta version of TYPO3 4.6. This is a developer "snapshot" and marks the start of our feature freeze phase.

Development progress

Highlights

• Cleanup: Methods deprecated since at least 2 major versions have finally been removed.
  
• Localization: Localization files for all TYPO3 versions are now provided by our new translation server. It generates language packs both as XLIFF and standard locallang.xml format.
• Form project: Successor of the Form content element is finally integrated. Editors can now enjoy a new era of UX friendliness when working with forms.
• Performance: The backend allows an instantaneous switch between modules once they have been loaded. Fluid templates are compiled and 2-5x quicker!

Downloads

We also have an introductionpackage for beta1, which allows testing the new features right away on a fresh installation. Experienced users can of course opt to upgrade an existing installation to the new 4.6beta1 version, but keeping in mind that this is still a snapshot of our development so far, and more changes and fixes will be included in further releases.
